Frequently asked questions

Turning

Thanks to grinding it is possible to obtain tolerances of 3 micrometres on diameters and of 5 micrometres on roundness.

Yes it is, Gima S.p.A. is able to carry out turning operations on square and hexagonal profiles, besides other particular shapes provided by the customer.

Stamping

Gima S.p.A. is able to produce parts derived from sheet metal with a thickness up to 10mm and a width up to 1000mm.

The most commonly used stainless steel for stamping operations of sheet metal is AISI 304 or AISI 430.

Yes it is, after evaluation of the functional status and of the technical characteristics.

Die Making

The production time for a stamping die varies according to its complexity and to the number of parts that composes it. Average completion time is usually between 20 and 40 working days after the order.

All major operations, such as engineering, roughing, grinding, drilling, milling, EDM cutting, tempering, assembly and testing are carried out within Gima S.p.A. facility. Only in some exceptional cases we rely on third parts for special tools or tempering.

The carrier plates are made of C45 steel. Dies, punches and other work surfaces are made of 1.2080 steel: a high alloy steel, suitable for tempering and with a high wear resistance.

Please contact us by phone or via the contact form and provide a drawing of the part. For a quicker response, you can also attach the 3D model. Kindly, report if Gima S.p.A. will produce the parts or if the die will be used by third parts. Moreover, we strongly suggest to report the dimensional and geometrical tolerances and, if necessary, other auxiliary operations like galvanizing, tumbling etc.

Yes, we can provide only the die to the customer, which will rely on an external supplier for parts production. On request, we can still offer maintenance during its usage.

Yes, it is possible to verify functionality and to execute the necessary sharpening operations. In some cases, we could need the drawing of the part or of the die.

Stamping operations allow obtaining parts at a very low price, at the expense of an initial investment. So it is suggested to rely on stamping when the production quantities allow a short return of investment (ROI).

It depends on a high number of variables like the type of the material and the thickness of the sheet, the complexity of the part, the stroke and the speed of the stamping press, the speed of any automation system etc. For flat parts obtained with a simple shearing, it is possible to reach 120 parts/minute. For more complex parts, that features bending or coining, the production capability is usually between 20 and 60 parts/minute.

Gima S.p.A. is able to assist the customer in the selection of the most proper production process and in the designing of parts obtained by cold forming. Thanks to FEM analysis it is also possible to verify the mechanical resistance of the parts right before the engineering of the stamping die.

Yes it is, in some cases we made stamping dies for cutting of plastic sheets.

Yes it is, we can build control and motion systems for executing particular or sequenced operations. Case by case, Gima S.p.A. is able to realize mechanic, electric, pneumatic or hydraulics devices.

Shipment and Packaging

During the quotation stage, we will provide different prices depending on requested quantities.

Gima S.p.A., through a consolidated supply chain, can provide to galvanizing, tempering, application of threadlock, tumbling, welding etc.

Yes it is, Gima S.p.A. can assembly different kind of parts derived from stamping or turning operations.

Yes you can, we are able to protect the parts using custom made packaging and protections.

It is possible to ship the pieces in disposable boxes, disposable sacks or metal boxes to be shipped back.
